Happiness is Time at the Barn

Horses are for life. Happiness has always equated to time at the barn, from childhood through adulthood. What I really desire is to work with horses and to ride dressage, keep going with that lifetime of learning that the sport demands. Being around horses is like feeling at home in the world. The time spent with them is the most fulfilling, even with the mundane tasks such cleaning tack, rolling wraps, and washing saddle pads. Mucking out stalls is part of that too, there is something meditative about it. When I am not with horses, there is a sense of being lost or not on my proper path.

That being said, my non- horse life has been exciting and interesting. I have done and seen a lot in the world. So those times without my equestrian friends have certainly not been in vain. However during this time of isolation, as the world rumbles and strains into a new era, I really crave a return to the daily horse lifestyle. I crave settling into the demands and drama of being around these magnificent animals.

Me on Diego

The responsibility of it all used to frighten me, I thought I would feel suffocated and unable to move around. My nomadic, free-spirited sense of self was nervous of being stunted. Now I know that horses are my guide, and they will bring me to the core of who I am. This is the most freeing state of being one can find, to be one’s self. In no way would that restrict me, in fact it will lead to further exploration and opportunity.

This dream is my goal. It is my nature, my passion, and my future to be immersed with horses every day. It doesn’t need to be something I get paid to do, that is overreaching. Simply being there for the horses, supporting their health and happiness, and fulfilling my own joy will be a beautiful success. Horses are for life.
