Restarting Equine Diaries
This last year has been a year of adjustment, and everyone has been required to reflect on what is important in order to adapt to how we move around our communities. I don’t know anyone who has not been touched by this collective change. The usual challenges in life became more acute, and globally there is a sense of exhaustion from dealing with the 2020 pandemic. Yet it has also brought about a shift in deciding what we value. People have turned to the great outdoors, nature, and see the value in being more in touch with animals and wildlife.
Restarting Equine Diaries
I had to pause with the development of Equine Diaries in order to handle my own transitions into a new life back in my home state of Minnesota. After time to breathe and re-embracing life in the “motherland,” the threshold into 2021 feels like the time to chase my passions and nurture what I feel is meaningful in my life. This includes continuing our training program with my four-legged, Grand Prix dressage partner, Diego, and reviving Equine Diaries as a creative outlet to share my love of horses.
The Evolving World
The horse world is also going through transformations due to the continued pandemic. Equestrians are not going to stop what they love for anything, our alliance with our hooved friends has been deemed essential for millennia. With new regulations to keep people safe, shows have continued to run successfully. Virtual judging and training are exciting areas of growth that will provide people with more access to education, competition, and feedback. Many have chosen to stay up north for the winter season, or to remain local all year long. This has shifted our goals and horse care needs. New venues are opening, such as the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, which are redefining how equestrian sports are presented. The global shift that we have seen in people’s perspectives about how to maintain a mentally, physically, and socially healthy life is also reflected in the horse world, and I think it will be fascinating to watch.
Change is a Process
Please be patient as I work to build Equine Diaries. I will be following new developments, discussing age old equine puzzles, and celebrating all things horse. I will engage with other horse enthusiasts, professionals, and contributors, but for the most part this will be a solo project as I get the cogs in motion. There will be some changes, in line with the tone of the years, and the progress of my own step-by-step discovery of running a blog. I look forward to continuing to share my love for horses and learning with our evolving communities.
Come ride along with Equine Diaries!
